We Urgently ask that our supporters write Mr. Horgan, Mr. Dix and Mr. Simons…

In June 2016 Vancouver Coastal Health Care announced its intention to close Totem Lodge and Shorncliffe and replace them with a private, for-profit facility owned by Trellis Senior Services. In a remarkable show of opposition, the people of the Sunshine Coast made clear that we will not accept privatization of long-term care in our community.

Despite coming to office on a commitment to safeguard public care, the NDP have done little to distance themselves from their Liberal predecessors. Local stakeholders are still shut out of the decision-making process and the Ministry of Health continues to negotiate with VCH and Trellis for the construction of a new, private-public partnership (P3) facility. Our position is clear: P3 is only another name for privatization. Any attempt to turn public long-term care over to private, for-profit ownership is a betrayal of our community. We urgently ask that our supporters write Mr. Horgan, Mr. Dix and Mr. Simons, demanding that their government renounce for-profit ownership and begin a meaningful process of community engagement on the future of long-term care.

Thank you for helping to keep this issue front and centre.
